The Heimatliebe Brewery in Duderstadt, located outside the mediaeval structure of the town, wishes to expand its capacities. The design concept provides for production, presentation, restaurant and adventure playground in an attractive setting that has been newly defined in terms of space and aesthetics, evoking a feeling of “Heimat” (homeland).

New Heimatliebe Duderstadt:

The Heimatliebe Brewery in Duderstadt is in need of space for a higher production capacity. In addition, a world of experience focused on the regional brewing of craft beer is to be created for visitors. The design concept “Gebaute Heimatliebe” makes this idea come alive in contemporary form, even though the site is located outside the mediaeval town centre. The plans call for a large, well-structured open space with several hundred seats and a building for the production of Heimatliebe beers with event gastronomy.

The ensemble has been designed in traditional style at an appropriate scale. Derived from the typology of small-town structures, individual units will be occupied by the diverse functional elements such as production, malt store, restaurant and bottling plant. The required construction mass is broken up into a number of small building structures of varying heights. The supporting structure of the new building, analogous to historic half-timbered houses, is discernible from the outside. In addition to steel, the choice of material with brick façades and timber-clad flank wall is oriented to classical, typical styles of the region. The metal roofing can be seen as reminiscent of earlier production halls, but also as a sign of change in the modern world of brewing. The result will be a production facility in compatible proportions and familiar character that satisfies all functional requirements of the floor space schedule.

The new interpretation of the traditional is continued on the outside: the interplay of a newly-built brewery building and existing shooting range results in an enclosed space on a rural scale. All functions of the new Heimatliebe site are accessible from here; the space has the character of a protected yet busy courtyard of a farmstead or brewery and draws its amenity value from this setting.
